Welcome to today’s virtual tour our journey continues here in Jerusalem with a

search for the been going on for hundreds of thousands of years and where is the Ark of the according to the Book of Exodus the story of the Ark dates back to ancient Egypt in the 13th century B.C all of these leave me with no doubt in this sealed cave are the greatest treasures of Israel Ark of the Covenant is described in the book of Exodus as a golden chest [Music] here in Jerusalem we’re going to continue our Quest by looking for the Ark of the Covenant for thousands of years historians Believers and archaeologists have been captivated by the enigmatic disappearance of the Ark of the Covenant which stood as a potent of God’s presence among the Israelites up until recently scientific discoveries provided a glimpse of Hope by putting forth answers to the compelling mystery surrounding The Disappearance of the Ark these discoveries use hints from historical writings to suggest potential Ark locations however this begs another troubling question the biblical accounts indicate that the Ark of the Covenant was very important spiritually and that not everyone was allowed to touch it directly ly thus what is the relationship between scientists and the holy Relic what is the secret behind their unusual access in this episode we will explain in more detail smash that thumbs up button for me leave me a comment below and share this video with your friends and let’s get started hunt for the Ark of the Covenant many scientists think they have located the final remnants of the historically significant Arc of the Covenant according to one of Ron Wyatt’s claims he found this holy Relic hidden beneath the old remnants of Jerusalem’s Old City the central theme of Ron Wyatt’s Discovery narrative is the discovery of the Ten Commandments and the Ark of the Covenant beneath the ruins of Jerusalem according to Legend the ark has been housed in the Holy Temple also called Solomon’s Temple ever since the Israelites fled Egypt and settled in the promised land 600 years or so before the time of Jesus Jerusalem was in unrest the hallowed Temple was destroyed along with the entire city when the Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar invaded the Ark of the Covenant vanished from written history at this crucial juncture the ark was doomed to historical obscurity by the destruction inflicted by the Babylonians it is thought that the Ark of the Covenant a significant holy Relic for Jews may have been concealed in a room beneath the Earth Ron Wyatt has a belief that this chamber was forgotten and locked a long time ago in addition to Wyatt numerous other research archers and others assert that they have located this long-lost Ark that dates back thousands of years given that the Ark of the Covenant is revered as a very precious chest this finding is noteworthy people had been waiting impatiently for this hallowed treasure to open the primary concern was whether the findings of scientists would align with the biblical narrative when archaeologists discovered the ark their first task was to ascertain whether it actually belonged to the Israelites or if it was just one of several identical chests used by other prehistoric communities in the same area besides Ron many other scientists claimed to have located the ark which has been missing for thousands of years and of course when this hallowed treasure was discovered everyone anticipated the moment scientists opened it is what they saw in the ark exactly what is described in the Bible what would happen if scientists open the Ark of the Covenant one thing we all know Jewish and Christian holy scriptures dictate that the Ark of the COV can be carried only by Levites who constituted the ancient Jewish Priestly class they must carry the Ark by using two wooden poles inserted through rings on its sides as touching the ark itself will result in death at the hands of God according to the second book of Samuel the levite usza touched the ark with his hand in order to steady it and God instantly killed him first and foremost scientists would like to determine if it was the Ark of the Covenant used by the Israelites or any of the similar holy boxes or arcs used by other ethnic groups of Northwestern semites even though they have been understood Through the Bible it would still be a crucial initial responsibility scientists will be in awe the instant they see the Ark of the Covenant as if ripping out a book The Ark materialized in front of them it is true that the ark was encircled by a gold molding and covered in pure gold both Inside and Out The Mercy Seat is the name of the ark’s lid two gilded cherubim figurines with their faces turned toward the mercy seat and their wings outstretched are positioned above the lid it is regarded as the most hallowed section of the Ark the ark had four gold rings two on each side to transport the ark a goldplated acacia wood pole was inserted into the Rings these Transportation poles were to be permanent and never removed surprise went away after the scientists opened the ark let’s see what’s in the Ark in inside the Ark of Covenant the book of Exodus states that the ark held two stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments according to the New Testament book of Hebrews it also contained Aaron’s staff and a gold jar of Mana bezalel a man endowed with God’s spirit was chosen to build the Ark of the Covenant and other Furnishings for the Tabernacle bezalel was given Insight understanding knowledge and artistic abilities to execute this assignment ohol AB helped him an expert Craftsman supplied extra support after construction was completed the Ark of the Covenant was housed in a portable Shrine known as the Tabernacle the Tabernacle structure included tapestry drapes ornamented with cherubim these curtains hid the ark from view in front of the curtain an altar and incense burners were set Aon and his sons were in charge of burning incense made from various components both in the morning and at nightfall to create a fragrant offering the Tabernacle had two rooms the outer room known as the holy place and the Inner Room known as the most holy place or holy of holies in the outer room there was a table where they displayed the bread of the presence also known as the showbread in addition an incense Altar and a seven Branch candal abam known as the manura were present the holy of holies was the actual Dwelling Place of the god of Israel God was said to be invisibly enthroned over a solid slab of gold that lay on the arkc of Covenant cherubim stood at either end of the slab indicating God’s presence the theories about the location of the Ark according to a fascinating Jewish tale King Josiah foresaw Jerusalem’s collapse and concealed The Ark in sacred relics beneath the Temple Mount sealed by a stone inscribed only for the eyes of the expected Messiah some Biblical verses appear to confirm this scenario implying that the ark stayed within the Temple’s walls until its collapse according to Bible references the ark remained within the temple during its destruction which is consistent with the narrative in 2 Chronicles 35 three where King Josiah tells the Levites to deposit the ark within the temple implying that it had not previously been there furthermore historical passages from Jeremiah and Ezekiel suggest that God’s brightness vanished from the temple before its destruction which could signify the ark’s departure or hiding archaeological and historical evidence can confirms the existence of unknown Chambers and tunnels beneath the Temple Mount attempts to enter these unexplored territories have stirred controversy on several occasions for example in 1981 a group attempted to destroy the Dome of the Rock by claiming they discovered a tunnel leading to the ark’s hidden chamber opening an old cave door in 1996 sparked rioting with accusations that Israel was attempting to get access to the ark or harm the Muslim structures above it furthermore programs such as The Exodus decoded have claimed to have discovered evidence of subterranean passageways that may be linked to the ark while the idea of the Ark lying hidden beneath the Temple Mount is intriguing it has received significant skepticism and criticism many scholars criticize this hypothesis emphasizing its Reliance on myths and conjectures that lack significant historical or textual support aside from that there are several theories about what happened to the ark furthermore the the religious and political meaning of locating or displaying the ark today is unclear both Judaism and Christianity have survived centuries without a physical presence attempting to locate the ark could spark Bloodshed between Jews Christians and Muslims all of whom claim Jerusalem’s holy sights so what can be known about the ark’s final resting place just as scientists might have discovered the location of the Ark of the Covenant it’s possible that God is providing signs and guidance to his chosen people to uncover this ancient treasure thousands of years later whether he will allow the ark’s existence to be revealed publicly is uncertain he may choose to reveal only its sacred Spirit to humanity not its physical form Ron Wyatt firmly believed he had found the Ark of the Covenant but something inexplicable prevented him from capturing photos or videos of it he recounted that when he returned to the site to gather more evidence Four Angels appeared before him and told him it was not yet time for the world to witness this discovery that moment is still to come at that future time a universal religious law will be enforced worldwide thus to witness or touch the ark with your own eyes you must wait for God’s permission meanwhile let’s revisit the past to understand what happened during the last recorded appearance of the Ark of the Covenant the final mention of the Ark in the Old Testament is found in 2 Chronicles 35 3 then he he said to the Levites who taught all Israel who were holy to the Lord put the holy Ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built this event took place during the reign of King Josiah around 630 BC One of the most famous theories about the ark is associated with Ethiopia’s 14th Century National epic the kinist according to this account the Queen of Sheba visited King Solomon in Jerusalem in the 10th century B.C and had a son with him on her journey back their son named menelik eventually returned to Jerusalem once he came of age although menelik decided to go back to his mother Solomon sent a group of Jewish Sons with him unbeknownst to Solomon or menelik these companions reluctant to leave Jerusalem decided to take a souvenir the Ark of the Covenant by the time Solomon realized it was too late to retrieve the sacred artifact menelik brought the ark to the city of axam and with the ark at his side he led a long life of priests we have to prepare for the second coming of Jesus the second coming of Christ CF Hebb 927 is a prevailing theme of the New Testament it is referenced eight times more often than the Lord’s initial coming Partington 354 it is alluded to more than 300 times in the New Testament TI 442 because there is considerable error associated with the Lord’s return we must examine this theme not only positively but also in addressing several errors that have distorted Biblical teaching prophesied in Old Testament since immortality which is associated with the second coming is illuminated most fully by the gospel of Christ 2 Tim 110 one would not expect there to be an abundance of explicit information in the Old Testament related to this terminal event there are however hints of the Lord’s return nestled within the OT literature job felt there would be a time of vindication for him by his Redeemer at some point after his flesh had disintegrated 1925 27 though he had no precise understanding of that Redeemer from his ancient vantage point in a Messianic discourse David foretold of an ultimate retribution upon Jehovah’s enemies panor 29 110 1 Isaiah spoke of the time when every knee would bow and every tongue would swear allegiance to God is 4523 CBF romor 1411 Daniel prophesied of a future bodily Resurrection Dan 1223 these events are associated with the Savior Second Coming New Testament affirmation as indicated above the New Testament abounds with information regarding the second coming of Christ Jesus himself affirmed it on numerous occasions SE Mount 24 37 39 42 44 shortly before his crucifixion the Savior promised that after his death he would come again SE y 1915 Joan 14 three when the Lord ascended into heaven the Angels proclaimed that he would so come in like manner as they watched him depart into heaven acts 111 the entire 15th chapter of 1 Corinthians deals with the resurrection of the body to occur at the time of Jesus’s return verses 23 the books of first and 2 Thessalonians both deal significantly with the Christ return 1 4 13 FF 5 1 FM 2 1 7 FF 2 1 F there is a special Greek term commonly used for the return of Christ parusia 24 times in the New Testament signifying an arrival or presence is employed 16 times for the second coming CF Mount 24 37 39 1 this 313 One Core 152 3 Jazz 5 7 Etc one scholar suggests that the arrival motifs treated in many of these texts are derived from OT and Jewish salvation expectations which anticipate an Earthly personality such as the Messianic King rle 3.44 let us now consider the issue of the second coming from both positive and negative Vantage points features of the second coming there are explicit features of the second coming that identify the nature of this Grand Event at the same time these qualities eliminate various false ideas that have Arisen within the community of Christendom over the past two Millennia consider the following points certainty of the second coming the second coming is certain to occur the very Integrity of Christ is at stake in this matter he declared I come again under giring that with if it were not so I would have told you junan 14:2 further it is identified as a definite day for example the day of our Lord Jesus Christ one Cordon 1855 2 core 114 1th 5 2 time of Second Coming not revealed the specific time of that event is not revealed he will come at an unexpected time Mount 2437 FF similar to the manner in which a thief stalks his victim 1 that’s 52 not even Christ during his personal Ministry knew when that day would occur CF 1332 this was due to his self-limitation of certain knowledge while on Earth Strange indeed are the claims of certain modern religionists who imagine they can calculate that which the Lord could not date Setters have been notoriously wrong when the skeptic bertron Russell charged Jesus with error claiming Christ believed his coming would occur during the first century he exposed his pathetic ignorance of biblical data 19676 Second Coming will be literal the Lord’s coming will be literal there are passages which mention comings of Christ that are representative that is not literal for example his coming on Pentecost with the arrival of his kingdom Mount 16:28 or via the dispatch of the spirit to his Apostles gun 14:18 in the destruction of Jerusalem Mount 2430 or in a disciplinary fashion Reverend 25 but Christ’s Second Coming will be personal note the expression the Lord himself won this 416 they teach falsely who claim that no visible return of Christ to the Earth is to be expected Clark 444 or that the second coming was merely the punitive action of Christ in the ad70 destruction of Jerusalem as alleged by Max King and his preterist disciples C Jackson 3156 Christ’s return will be visible the Lord will come visibly not as the theory of the invisible Rapture maintains this example of freak exag Jesus was popularized by how Lindsay in the book the late great planet Earth 12425 the Lord’s return will be a Revelation 2 this 17 indeed a manifestation 1j 228 involving an appearance 1 Tim 614 2 Tim 4 18 tit 213 HEB 929 to he will come as the son of man Mount 1627 in his glorified body Phil 3:21 Jesus return will be final the second coming will be terminal Paul depicts the coming of Christ as being the end death will have been destroyed and the Lord’s enemies will have been abolished one corber 1523 24 clearly then since the dead have not yet been raised the Second Coming obviously did not occur in ad70 as the radical predus allege additionally when false teachers attempted to undermine the Christian cause by challenging the Lord’s promise of his coming Peter refuted their charge by contending that Christ’s coming would be accompanied by the demolition of the entire universe tupet 3 4 10 thus that coming has not occurred and there will be no place for a 1,000-year Earthly reign of Christ following that coming as is alleged by premillennialists events associated with the second coming though we touch slightly upon the following issues and points discussed previously we now will consider them more systematically the Resurrection The General resurrection of the Dead is connected with the return of Christ the ancient Sadducees Deni the resurrection Mount 2223 acts 2368 as do modern Skeptics but the doctrine of the bodily Resurrection is affirmed abundantly in the New Testament C junal 528 29 639 40 mcer 1218 27 there is no post-judgment Redemption nor is there an eventual Annihilation for the wicked the purpose of Christ’s judgment will not be to determine one’s destiny that is fixed at the moment of one’s death lukong 16:22 23 the object will be to both reveal and vindicate the righteous Judgment of God Roman 2:5 which will be acknowledged universally ROM 14:11 one now concerning the times and the seasons Brothers you have no need to have anything written to you sup two for you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night three while people are saying there is peace and security then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman and they will not Escape four but you are not in darkness Brothers for that day to surprise you like a thief five for you are all children of light Children of the day we are not of the night or of the darkness six so then let us not sleep as others do but let us keep awake and be sober seven for those who sleep sleep at night and those who get drunk drunk or drunk at night eight but since we belong to the day let us be sober having put on the breastplate of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of Salvation nine for God has not destined us for wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him 11 therefore encourage one another and build one another up just as you are doing one Thessalonians 5 1:1 not for us to know many wish to know when Jesus will return to establish his kingdom fully the disciples asked this very question Matt 243 Mark 13 4 Luke 217 in Jesus’s reply known as the olvet discourse he affirms that though signs will pressage his return the actual timing of his second coming is not for us to know Matt 4 36:44 Mark 1332 37 instead Believers should wait patiently and always be prepared for his appearance for example Matt 24 45 25 13 Luke 1239 46 in 1 Thessalonians 5 Paul also answers questions about the timing of Jesus’s return and he carefully models his response on Jesus’s teaching it may be that a letter had arrived from thessalonica or that Timothy had brought back news thus signaling the Thessalonians desire for more instruction on the timing of Jesus’s Second Coming concerning the times and the seasons a similar expression occurs in Acts 1 seven where Jesus responds to the disciples question about the timing of the restoration of the kingdom of God it is not for you to know times or Seasons that the father has fixed by his own authority referring again to the church as brothers Paul reminds the church concerning instruction they had already received when Paul and his team were with them in thessalonica rhetorically Paul underscores that they have no need to have anything written To You Paul stresses again that they already know the answer to this question employing the intensified pronoun you yourselves and stating that they are already fully GQ acros accurately aware of the proper reply admittedly this reply is perhaps disappointing to some the timing of Jesus’s return will be a surprise Jesus compared his return to a thief who comes in the night at a time at which no one expects him Matt 24:43 Luke 12:39 in this verse Paul references Jesus’s own eschatological teaching as he did earlier CF comments on 1 Theses 110 415 4:16 51 Jesus Thief aphorism was clearly well known in the Apostolic tradition C tet 310 Reverend 3 3 1615 throughout the NT this thief’s saying appears in the context of warning and exhortation the thief causes injury to the household therefore those unprepared for the Lord’s return will suffer loss and destruction this provides a helpful transition to the thought of 1 Thessalonians 5 3 and 8 Paul all draws on OT vocabulary for the day of the Lord for example Isa 1369 J 4610 AAC 33 Joel 231 314 Amos 51820 zeep 178 Mal 45 to depict the day on which the Lord Jesus will appear to bring final judgment on his enemies and Vindication for his people One Core number 1 8 5 5 2 Core 1 114 twoth 2 two also tet 310 don’t be caught unaware since Christ’s return will come as a surprise Paul warns that those who are not following Christ are in danger of being caught unaware people may become so acclimatized to the status quo that they forget that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead C if out also T pet 3 4 Paul pictures someone who observes there is peace and security and thus assumes the signs for Jesus’s return and final judgment are still far off such a person fails to be prepared for Christ’s appearance indeed it may be at just such a moment that sudden destruction brings the final judgment following an OT metaphor for Destruction Isa 2617 j431 624 Mike 4910 on the day of the Lord cesb 138 Paul draws analogies to the labor pains of pregnancy which can be agonizing and sudden labor pains also appear in various other eschatological metaphors from Jesus and Paul Matt 248 Mark 138 John 16:21 ROM 8:22 here the emphasis as in the OT remains merely on the pain itself without reference to the joy of the birth no one will be able to flee from the sudden judgment Christ brings CF ROM 2:3 in contrast to the people mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 5 three the Thessalonian Believers are not in darkness since they are followers of Jesus seeking to walk according to his teaching they already know to be prepared for Jesus’s return the contrast makes it likely that Paul was speaking in 1 Thessalonians 5 three about those who do not know Christ both darkness and night in these verses refer to those who have not yet experienced the illumination of the gospels Shining in their souls in contrast the children of the light day are those who now see clearly enough to follow Jesus this Darkness light metaphor provides Paul with multiple applications especially in combination with Jesus’s thief metaphor since thieves steal primarily at night 1 52 those who are children of the day light will not be surprised by the thief their lives lived in faith hope and love One thes 5 and8 show that they have obtained salvation in Christ 1 thes 59 as they live out their sanctification by walking in his light-filled ways in contrast those who remain in spiritual Darkness will be surprised with sudden destruction at Christ’s return y 1th 53 in verse 5 Paul and his colleagues shift subtly from talking about you to speaking about us they include themselves alongside the Thessalonian Believers as children of light increasing the sense of fellowship with one another another Paul now introduces two additional related metaphors when he says let us not sleep he certainly does not mean it literally sleep connotes a passive callous disregard for the need to be prepared drunkenness further suggests such irresponsibility Paul elsewhere commends physical sobriety and avoidance of drunkenness gal 521 EP 518 one Tim 3 3 Titus 1 seven but here the reference is metaphorical cf1 corber 1534 in context sleep and drunkenness make one ill prepared to encounter the surprise of a thief during the night connecting these metaphors to the preceding discussion 1 545 of Darkness and Light Paul observes that those who sleep and those who get drunk both inhabit the space of night and darkness in contrast the children of light will be found awake and sober and thus prepared for Christ’s return CF John 1235 36 EP 5814 thus the directives to keep awake and be sober refer to being watchful and ready for Christ appearing some have understood the wakefulness of the children of light here to relate to cognition implying that such children have studied the scriptures and thus know the signs well enough to predict Christ’s return however these images do not work in that way the ongoing sobriety and wakefulness of the children of light has to do with how they conduct themselves as those living in the day and in one Thessalonians 58 Paul will indicate specifically what such sobriety involves Faith love and hope the children of light will be found awake and sober and thus prepared for Christ’s return how to prepare this verse further explains what Paul’s images in 1 Thessalonians 5 48 have been pointing toward what does it look look like to be prepared for Christ’s return preparedness means to conduct our lives in faith Love and Hope in Christ note that Paul had previously mentioned this Triad of faith hope and love One this 13 cm1 core 13313 galver 556 Colonel 145 Paul adopts the image of God’s Heavenly armor from Isaiah 5917 in Isaiah it is the Lord God who wears such armor in another way well known passage EP 6141 17 Paul expands on the armor of God applying it there as here to the armor that God furnishes to equip his Saints some interpreters especially of the Ephesians text tend to wax eloquent on why each concept such as Faith or hope is matched with a particular piece of Roman military equipment however we should be more constrained in our discussions of this imagery since Paul varies the labels for each piece of equipment in one Thessalonians and Ephesians thus the breastplate is righteousness in Ephesians 6:14 following Isa 5917 whereas in 1 Thessalonians 5 8 the breastplate refers to both faith and love the broader imagery is Paul’s main point Faith Love and Hope are likened to armor that protects Believers and prepares them for Spiritual battle salvation and Redemption Paul mentions the hope of Salvation in 1 Thessalonians 58 1 Thessalonians 5910 proceed to discuss how God’s gracious salvation and redemption in Christ delivers such hope to Believers assuring us that our destiny will not be God’s Wrath and eternal destruction but rather Eternal salvation while Believers are in some sense saved in the present in this particular context salvation is ju opposed with future wrath and judgment and thus Paul looks forward here to the final salvation of Christ’s people in the resurrection such salvation is obtained c122 THS 214 only through the work of Jesus who is declared both the Eternal Lord and Christ in a brief summary of The Gospel 1th 510 Paul reminds the church that Jesus’s death was for us signifying that his death made atonement for our sins moreover Jesus’s resurrection provides the hope that someday we shall live with him our Resurrection Lives having been made possible through our Union with the Risen Christ CF for example one Coral 15 2028 Paul’s mention of whether we are awake or asleep affords at least two possible interpretations it could draw on the concept of sleep wakefulness found in the immediate context 1th 567 but then verse 10 would be at odds with Paul’s caution that those who sleep are in darkness and thus in Peril of Destruction 1 5 through 37 rather whether we are awake or asleep likely refers back to Paul’s discussion at the beginning of his eschatological teaching 1th 413 or1 18 where asleep refers to the dead in Christ and thus awake would then indicate those believers who are presently alive concerning Jesus’s followers both the dead in Christ and the currently living Believers await our final resurrection and eternal life with Christ as at the conclusion of the preceding section one thes 418 here Paul again invites the Thessalonians to Mutual encouragement based on the gospel truths found in Paul’s teaching alongside encourage one another Paul adds build one another up which is a further idiom for encouraging and strengthening others CFL acts 2032 1 cor 144 the importance of Christian Community is here assumed for if we both individually and collectively are to be built up in Christ we need one another for Mutual encouragement in this verse and throughout the epistle Paul affirms that the Thessalonians are already following Christ just as you are doing see call comments on one thes 1 610 3 67 4 1 that in itself was one way Paul encouraged and built up the churches he commended them for what they were doing well one of the Bible’s greatest truths is that God offers us our Salvation as a free gift it isn’t something we can buy nor is it something we can earn by our own good works the Bible puts it this way for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our lord Romans 6:23 but the Bible also tells us two important truths about God’s Gift of Salvation first it tells us that it is a costly gift think of it this way suppose you wanted to express your love for someone by giving them a very fine gift when what would you have to do well you’d first have to go to the store and buy it and the finer the gift the more it would cost you to your friend it’s a free gift but it wasn’t free on your part the same is true with God’s Gift of Salvation to us it’s free but it cost God the life of his son the reason is because on the cross Jesus Christ became the final sacrifice for our sins he paid for our salvation with his blood but the Bible also tells us a second truth like any other gift God’s gift of Salvation doesn’t become ours until we accept it just as we can refuse the gift someone offers us so we can refuse God’s Gift of salvation but why would we don’t let this happen to you but by faith reach out and accept Christ into your life today you can know Christ today I grew up in the Bible Belt where by mid-elementary most of my peers could Point proudly to a note written in the front of their Bibles announcing the exact date they got saved at Junior High youth rallies the rededication began along with a smattering of I thought I was saved but I really wasn’t teased scribble over that first date and writing the new one through all seven verses of Just as I am in all four years of high school we Children of the Bible Belt battled our doubts and bustled our backslidden selves down aisles to alter rails maybe we thought this time just maybe the saving will stick where’s the freedom our problem was this our sinning had not ceased with our professions of Faith the Salvation that had promised us New Life In Christ had by all appearances failed to deliver we still made all the same mistakes and along the thorny path of adolescence we added fresh failures to the list damning evidence or so we thought that when we prayed the prayer we had somehow not done it right where was the freedom from sin we had been promised looking back I wonder if for many of us our problem was not with salvation itself but with our understanding of how salvation brings Freedom not until my early 20s did I gain any Clarity on this issue I knew I served a God who was and is and is to come but I had yet to learn that I possessed from him a Salvation of which the same could be said salvation from sin can be broken down into three sanctification and glorification for the believer our justification was our sanctification is and our glorification is to come come we were saved we are being saved we will be saved I found the easiest way to understand these three forms of freedom is to remember the three PS penalty power and presence justification freedom from sin’s penalty when we came to saving faith in Christ confessing our great need of him and asking for forgiveness from the punishment we deserved we were met with God’s unequivocal yes since Christ bore the penalty for our sins we receive freedom from that penalty for all sins past present and future we were Justified before God our judge because our penalty had been paid those who have been Justified never need rejuso 812 our justification is behind us it is a past occurrence we were saved from sin’s penalty sanctification freedom from sin’s power now that the grace of God has been set upon us as a permanent Seal two cordal 1222 we are being made new we are being set free from the power of sin by the power of the spirit God’s grace is restoring to us a will that wants what he wants before we were Justified our broken Wills were utterly subject to the power of sin we chose sin at every turn even when we made choices that that appeared good from an external standpoint because we had no higher internal purpose than to glorify self these choices were ultimately sinful as well now the power of sin is broken we have been given the deposit of the Holy Spirit though we once chose only to sin now we have the power and the growing desire to choose righteousness we who were once slaves to sin’s power are now free to serve God we don’t always use our freedom we still sin but over time we learn increasingly to choose Holiness our entire lives from that handwritten date in our Bibles onward are devoted to working out our Salvation Phil 21213 as we learn to choose righteousness instead of sin to walk in obedience to God’s commands our sanctification is ongoing it is a slow moving growth in Holiness we are being saved from sin’s Power glorification freedom from sin’s presence we will fight to grow in Holiness our entire Earthly lives but when we have run the race and fought the good fight we will enter into the presence of the Lord forever we will be glorified in his presence our sole rest will at last be complete as Sin and its Devastation will cease to assail us there can be no evil in his presence though now we are surrounded on all sides by sinfulness though now sin continues to cling to our hearts on a day not too distant we will go to a place where sin is no more in our glorification we will at last be granted freedom from the very presence of sin our glorification is coming it is the day we trade the persistent presence of sin for the perfect presence of the Lord we will be saved from sin’s presence rest labor hope if my childhood peers and I had better understood these three aspects of salvation’s Freedom we might have saved ourselves a great deal of anxiety and a few trips down the aisle the knowled that sin is gradually overcome across a lifetime would have been good news to the teenager who thought surely her ongoing sin invalidated her profession the knowledge that sanctification is hard work would have helped her topple the myth of the effortless stock photo Christian Life the knowledge that total freedom from sin is a future certainty would have helped her ask in faith for grace for her current failures maybe you too have found salvation mystifying maybe you’ve whether a certain political figure is the Antichrist certain natural disasters are the apocalypse or whether a certain War marks the beginning of the final great battle use this remaining time to lift one another up and to point others to Christ sufficient for the day is its own trouble Matthew 6:34 illustrations of Judgment Day Michaelangelos last judgment the last judgment cinee Chapel by Michelangelo 1536 1541 the image above is an art piece by Michelangelo an Italian Renaissance painter called the last judgment which covers the entire altar wall of the cistin chapel in Vatican City it was created as a representation of the second coming of Christ in the final and eternal judgment by God of all Humanity once set in motion it is inescapable this final judgment isn’t upon us yet but when it comes Isaiah says it will be inescapable further down in chapter 24 Isaiah says Isaiah 24 17 Terror and pit and snare confront you oh inhabitant of the earth 18 then it will be that he who flees the report of disaster will fall into the pit and he who climbs out of the pit will be caught in the snare picture that in your mind a man escapes from a pit only to be caught in a trap the point is try as he might he can’t escape other passages in Isaiah give the same impression God’s judgment is a flood a storm once it arrives it brings overwhelming destruction that can’t be avoided summary judgment is not arbitrary it is not biased it is often self-inflicted and once set in motion it is inescapable all this has a clear implication now is the time to find a way to avoid judgment once God judgment has begun it will be too late I was talking to a high school student about this topic a few years ago he had been attending our Bible study for a few months he was getting to know people and he was really drawn to Christ but he wasn’t ready to become a Christian he explained I believe all this is true but if I decide to become a Christian I won’t have much fun in college I’m going to get my degree first and become a Christian after that what would you say to someone like that after assuring him it’s enjoyable and fulfilling to follow Christ at any age I asked how he could be sure he would be alive after college the truth is we don’t know what the next year or next month or next day holds we don’t know when God’s time of judgment is coming or whether we will live to see tomorrow what we know now is that God has provided a clear way of Escape in chapter 26 Isaiah says 263 the steadfast of mind you will keep in perfect peace peace because he trusts in you for trust in the Lord forever for in God the Lord we have an everlasting Rock Isaiah gives us a general guideline here for how to approach God trust him put yourself in his care that means as we Face the prospect of judgment we should turn to God for a way out you can’t rescue yourself but God is willing and able to do it Paul explains how Romans 5 or8 but God demonstrates his own love for us in this while we were still sinners Christ died for us nine since we have now been justified by his blood how much more shall we be saved from God’s Wrath through him this verse says the blood of Christ can Shield you from God’s Wrath in judgment there’s no mention here of finding protection in keeping God’s law and there’s nothing here about avoiding judgment by going to church every week protection from judgment comes only through through the blood of Christ the blood of Christ points to how Jesus suffered when he was on the cross when he was crucified he took the Judgment that you and I deserve God’s Wrath anger toward our sin onto himself because of what he did for us Christ can shelter you from the wrath of God like a heat shield protects a Space Capsule re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere but you must call out to Christ ask him to forgive you and ask that his blood his death on your behalf protect you from judgment objections to judgment I admit our description of judgment so far is pretty rough the author CS Lewis comments on how off-putting this topic is to many people speak about beauty truth and goodness or about a God who is simply the indwelling principle of these three speak about a great spiritual force pervading all things a common mind of which we are all parts a pool of generalized spirituality to which we can all flow and you will command a friendly interest but the temperature drops as soon as you mention a God who has purposes and performs particular actions who does one thing and not another a concrete choosing commanding prohibiting god with a determinant character CS Lewis the business of Heaven New York New York harcord Inc 1984 p8 the notion that God has opinions about how we live is offensive enough but the idea that God might judge us for ways we have violated his law for some people that’s just Flatout unacceptable I’ve heard more than one person say I refuse to believe in a God who judges they ask how could a good God ever judge well Isaiah has a completely different take on things he does believe in a God who judges and he cites God’s judgment as one of many reasons why he is good and worthy of Praise 25 one O Lord you are my God I will exalt you I will give thanks to your name to for you have made a city into a heath a fortified City into a ruin a palace of strangers is a city no more it will never be rebuilt Isaiah is exalting God and giving thanks to him why the text says for you have made a city into a heap a fortified City into a ruin Isaiah Praises God because of his judgment how can Isaiah speak so positively about something that seems so negative here in this passage and in other parts of Isaiah Isaiah gives us two reasons why God’s judg judement is good and necessary the first is that this morning we’re going to talk about everyone’s favorite topic God’s judgment I was torn about covering this but you can’t do the book of Isaiah Justice if you avoid this topic so we won’t today we’ll devote our entire time together to studying a section of Isaiah that focuses on God’s judgment the specific kind of judgment will spend most of our time talking about is temporal judgment temporal judgment is when God allows and sometimes introduces negative consequences into the lives of sinful people often in Isaiah sinful Nations this involves things like military defeat drought famine disease and so on we use the term temporal to emphasize that these judgments happen in this world not in the next life but in this life in history here on Earth we see examples of God’s temporal judgment in the very first chapter of Isaiah and judgment passages are scattered throughout the book when you arrive at chapter 13 though mention of judgment becomes more frequent and intense in Chapter 13 Isaiah predicts God will judge the nation of babyon 1319 to 1423 then he predicts the Judgment of Assyria 1424 27 Felisa 1428 32 Moab 151 1614 Syria and aphim 171 11 Kush 181 7 Egypt 19126 Duma in Arabia 211 or 2214 entire 23118 As you move through these chapters God turns his wrath toward different nations like a rotating tank turret blowing them away because of their sin and then in chapter 24 his judgment explodes into a judgment of the entire world 241 23 the first nine judgments listed above have already occurred that’s why for example there is no country of Moab today but God’s Judgment of the entire world is yet future let’s read about it 241 behold the Lord lays the Earth waste devastates it distorts its surface and scatters its inhabitants two and the people will be like the priest the servant like his master the maid like her mistress the buyer like the seller the lender like the borrower the Creditor like the debtor three the Earth will be completely laid waste and completely despoiled for the Lord has spoken this word four the Earth Mourns and Withers the world Fades and Withers the exalted of the people of the earth fade away if you read the rest of chapter 24 it’s clear that Isaiah is describing a global judgment not just something pertaining to the nation of Judah and it’s clear it happens at the very end of History I I it is still in the future when people read this some say well that’s the god of the Old Testament he is a god of wrath the god of the New Testament is more loving and would never act like that but the truth is the New Testament describes God in the exact same way it teaches that one day God will judge the entire world 2 Thessalonians 1 7 when the Lord Jesus appears he will come with his mighty Angels eight in flaming fire bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the good news of our Lord Jesus from cover to cover the consistent testimony of scripture is that judgment is coming in fact no book in the Bible talks more about this final period of temporal judgment than the New Testament book of Revelation it provides more detail than Isaiah about what God’s judgments will be like and who will be affected thank you for watching and stay tuned for the next video [Music]
