Noah’s Ark 2026: A Drill Broke Beneath Turkey’s Ship-Shaped Hill — The Truth Is Still in the Lab

lananhht

Genesis gives the ark a length of 300 cubits and a resting place in the mountains of Ararat.

That is the version most of us learned as children.

18 mi south of Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey, there is a hill shaped like a ship.

And this September, a team drove a drill nearly 60 ft into it.

At about 15 ft down, the drill bit snapped on something harder than limestone.

Here is the part the headline skipped.

The samples from that hole are sitting in a laboratory in Ankura right now.

Listen to this.

Major news out of the Middle East.

A team of US scientists say they just found physical evidence belonging to one of the Bible’s most important stories, Noah’s Ark.

They are on the ground right now in the biblical city of Araride.

And the results are not expected until early 2027.

Nobody on Earth knows what is inside that hill yet.

What we do know is stranger than the rumors.

The CIA was watching this same corner of Turkey in 1957.

An American spy plane photographed a second ship-shaped object on Ararat’s ice cap in 1949.

And the oldest writers who described the ark’s landing place never pointed at Ararat at all.

They pointed at a mountain roughly 200 m away.

So, there are three candidates, one lab, and one test that has never been run in the history of this search.

By the end of this video, you will know exactly what that test can prove and what it never can.

If you like mysteries told without the hype, stay with me to the end.

The last piece of this story is the one almost nobody mentions.

Start with the numbers because the whole argument rests on them.

The Duru Pinner Formation sits at roughly 6,300 ft above sea level near the town of Dogubazit in Agri province.

Its supporters measure it at 515 ft long.

Noah’s ark scans, the group most invested in the site, says that length lines up exactly with the biblical ark.

The trouble is the cubit.

It was never one fixed unit.

A common cubit runs about 18 in.

The Egyptian royal cubit runs closer to 20.6 in.

Multiply either by 300 and you land somewhere between 450 and 515 ft.

So a match is possible only at the very top of the range and only if you pick the longest cubit available.

Other surveys have measured the outline closer to 538 ft which pushes it past even that.

Now the second number Genesis gives the ark a width of 50 cubits, a ratio of 6:1.

A shape that has been sliding downhill in wet volcanic soil for thousands of years does not keep its proportions.

Geologists describe the slope around the formation as a slow active mud flow.

The hill is moving.

If the outline changes with every wet season, then measuring it to the foot tells you about the mud, not the boat.

That is the first problem.

The second is older and it comes from the man who knew this site better than anyone.

Nobody went looking for this hill.

In 1959, a Turkish army captain named Illan Drew Pininner was checking aerial photographs from a NATO mapping survey when an odd outline stopped him.

The images reached Arthur Brandenburgger, a photoggramometry specialist at Ohio State University, who said he had never seen anything shaped quite like it in a natural setting.

In 1960, an American team went in with Life magazine covering the trip.

They spent two days on the site.

They dug and they set off dynamite inside the outline.

What came up was soil and rock.

No timber, no nails, no hull.

The magazine ran the photo.

The story faded and the hills sat quiet for 20 years.

Then a different kind of searcher arrived.

David Fosold was not a professor.

He was a marine salvage expert from Chicago who spent his career finding real wrecks on real sea floors.

In 1985, he walked onto Drew Penner with the explorer Ron Wyatt and the geoysicist John Bombgardner.

And according to his own account, he took one look at the outline and called it a shipwreck.

He meant it.

In 1988, he published a book, The Ark of Noah, arguing that Drew Penner was the vessel.

He surveyed it with a radar unit and a frequency generator tuned to iron, a method that critics later compared to dowsing.

He found rows of readings he believed were iron fittings from the hall.

Then he kept going back.

In September 1994, he visited the site with the Australian geologist Ian Plymer.

After that trip, Fosold concluded the formation was not a boat.

He suggested that ancient people had believed the ark rested there, which explained why the tradition clung to that valley, but the hill itself was rock.

In 1996, he put his name on a paper with the geologist Lawrence Collins of California State University, Northridge.

It ran in the Journal of Geocscience Education, and the title did not soften anything.

It called the ark bogus and the formation a common geological structure.

Fazel died 2 years later in 1998.

Hold on to his name.

A salvage diver who wanted it to be a ship, studied it for a decade, and walked away.

His conclusion is the bar every new claim has to clear.

Collins and Fosle did not simply say it is natural.

They named the structure.

They described a doubly plunging sincline, which is a fold and rock layers that bends downward like a trough and dips at both ends.

Erode the softer material around a fold like that.

And the harder edges can leave an outline with a pointed end, curved sides, and a ridge down the middle.

In other words, the shape of a hole.

They went further.

The lines that looked like metal bracraced walls, they argued, were natural bands of lmonite and magnetite, two iron minerals sitting in steeply tilted sedimentary layers.

That explains Fold’s own iron readings.

He was not detecting nails.

He was detecting iron in the rock.

Then came the detail that should have ended the debate.

They reported fossil bearing limestone that cuts across the fold.

If that reading is right, the supposed flood deposits are younger than the ark they sit on.

A ship cannot be older than the sediment the flood left behind it.

Even the famous anchor stones fell apart.

Those are large pierced rocks near the village of Kazan that Wyatt said were drogue stones hung from the ark.

Collins traced them to local andite, a volcanic rock from the same region, not from Mesopotamia.

Other researchers later read them as old grave markers.

And here is something that rarely gets said.

The case against Darup Pinner does not come only from skeptics.

The young earth creationist geologist Andrew Snowelling also concluded the formation is natural.

When a creationist and an anti-reationist reached the same verdict on the same hill, that agreement means something.

So why is anyone drilling there in 2026?

Because the geology explained the shape.

It never fully explained the soil.

The soil story did not begin last year.

From 2021, researchers from Istanbul Technical University, Agri Ibrahim Ciss University and Andrews University in Michigan had been sampling the slope.

Their early tests reported clay, marine material, and mollisk remains in ground that now sits more than a mile above sea level.

Farukqa, the vice director at Agri, said the results pointed to human activity in the area going back to the Calcolithic, the copper age, which begins in the sixth millennium B.C.

See, then in September 2024, a team collected soil from inside and outside the outline and spent the winter analyzing it.

Their headline was that the ground inside the boat shape held about three times more organic matter than the hillside around it.

Preliminary measurements reported this year put the interior carbon at roughly 40% higher than the control soil.

The soil scientist William Crabtree described the result as extraordinary.

Andrew Jones of Noah’s Arc Scans called the difference between inside and outside samples statistically staggering.

That is a real finding and it deserves a fair hearing.

If the ground inside the outline is chemically different from the ground outside it, the outline is not just a random wrinkle in the hillside.

But think about what a trough does.

A sink line is a bowl.

Water collects in bowls.

Plant matter washes in and gets buried.

Water ground breaks down vegetation more slowly.

A depression in a mud flow could hold more organic carbon for reasons that have nothing to do with timber.

Extra carbon is consistent with decayed wood.

It is also consistent with a wet hollow in a hill.

The team itself chose careful words.

It described the data as evidence of a unique potentially man-made structure distinct from the surrounding mudflow.

Potentially that word is carrying the whole sentence.

And that is why the 2026 season mattered.

For the first time, someone stopped arguing about the surface and decided to look underneath it.

The fieldwork began on June 29th, 2026.

It was led by the archaeologist Jinker Adela of Shiva’s Kamhiri University working with Agri Ibrahim Cis University with Andrew Jones as vice president of the research project.

About 20 researchers from five countries spent roughly 90 days on the slope.

They logged GPS positions, built two and three-dimensional maps, flew drones over the outline, and ran ground penetrating radar across it.

Then in September, the drills arrived.

Reports say the team pulled close to 1,000 soil samples from about 150 locations.

Corores went down as far as 18 to 20 m, around 60 ft.

Most holes went 5 to 8 m.

The radar results according to Jones showed right angle features, layered structures, possible tunnels, and empty spaces underground.

This is the part one want you to notice because it is genuinely new.

The team drilled inside the outline and also outside it in control locations on the same hillside.

In more than six decades of ark hunting at this site, that is the first serious attempt to compare the boat shape against its own surroundings with deep cores.

That is how you test a claim.

You give it the chance to fail.

If the inside cores and the outside cores come back the same, the boat shape is just a shape.

If they come back different, the argument moves to a new level for the first time since 1959.

The season also produced pottery.

Fragments turned up near the formation and the team suggested some could be very old, though no age has been established.

Jones put the implication bluntly to Fox News Digital.

If this is Noah’s ark, he said people were living right beside it early on.

Then came the moment that went viral.

In one hole inside the outline at roughly four to 5 m down, the drill hit a layer so hard it broke the bit.

Let me slow down here because this is the moment the whole story turns on.

The drill broke.

That is a fact.

The press release raised petrified wood as one possibility.

Jones said the layer was harder than limestone.

That is also a fact.

But look closely at what kind of fact it is.

It describes the drill bit.

It does not describe the material.

Now remember what Collins wrote in 1996.

Bands of lmonite and magnetite.

Iron minerals and tilted layers of rock.

Iron cemented layers form when iron rich water seeps through sediment and hardens it.

And they can be extremely tough.

A drill breaking on a hard iron layer inside a hill already known for iron is not a surprise.

It may be exactly what the 1996 paper would have predicted.

Here is the uncomfortable twist.

Even if the layer does turn out to be petrified wood, the problem is not over.

When wood petrifies, minerals replace the original organic material, often almost completely.

Radioarbon dating needs carbon from the living tree.

Fully mineralized would leave very little of it.

So, the most dramatic result the lab could return might also be the hardest to date.

On October 1st, the group released a preliminary radar report from the engineer Kosrotar, who said the formation is not geological and that a large man-made structure lies beneath it.

Those findings have not been independently verified or peer-reviewed.

And Bkar himself said something remarkable.

He is confident the anomalies come from one original object, but he said he does not know whether that object was a ship or something else entirely.

So the engineer behind the boldest claim is not claiming Noah.

He is claiming an object.

And the scientist leading the earlier soil work, Farooq Kaya of Agri Ibrahim CE University had already said that with the dating available, it was not possible to say a ship is here.

The samples are now in Ankura.

Jones put it plainly in his latest interview.

We still have the lab work to do.

He said that one sentence is worth more than every viral thumbnail made about this hill.

The team plans to publish its work under the title Daru Pinner Formation 2026 research across three international conference papers.

Until then, every headline you read is ahead of the evidence.

And that brings us to the question almost nobody asks.

What if the search has been on the wrong mountain all along?

Durupiner is not the only candidate and it was not the first one the United States government cared about.

In 1949, a US Air Force reconnaissance flight photographed the ice fields near the summit of Greater Ararat.

Ararat sat on the border between Turkey and the Soviet Union, which made it a place of military interest on the northwest corner of the western plateau at about 15,500 ft.

The film showed a dark elongated shape in the ice.

It sits about 1.4 4 mi west of the 16,854 ft summit on the lip of a steep drop.

The film was classified secret.

More images followed in 1956, 1973, 1976, 1990, and 1992.

In 1995, six frames from that 1949 footage were released under the Freedom of Information Act to Porsche Taylor, a national security law professor at the University of Richmond.

Taylor spent years lobbying for more imagery, then turned to commercial satellites like Iconos and Quickbird.

The object he studied became known as the Ararat anomaly.

Declassified CIA documents also show interest from at least 1957 in a location 18 mi south of Mount Ararat.

That is the distance to Darup Pinter.

So, two different ship shapes, two different heights, both photographed by intelligence services during the Cold War.

Taylor himself was careful.

Every jump in satellite resolution, he said, brought the shape into sharper focus.

Yet the images never settled whether it was a hole or a ridge of rock under ice.

Neither site has ever produced a verified piece of ancient timber.

Then there is the third mountain, and this is the one that unsettles the whole debate.

The Bible says the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat, plural.

Ararat was the name of a region, the old kingdom of Uratu around Lake Van.

Bill Krauss, who for years edited a newsletter tracking Ark expeditions, argued that the mountain we now call Mount Ararat did not become the traditional landing site until around the year 1200.

Before that, he said, ancient authorities pointed fairly consistently to a mountain about 200 m to the south.

That mountain is Kadi Deji, known in older sources as Mount Judy in the region once called Gordine.

The Quran names Aljudi as the place the ark settled.

The Babylonian priest Barasus writing in the 3rd century BC said pieces of the vessel survived in the mountains of the Gordans and that people scraped off the pitch to use as charms.

Josephus repeated the story in the first century and he wrote that the remains could still be shown to visitors in his day.

At the foot of that mountain sits the town of Scizar where local tradition still points to a shrine called the tomb of Noah.

Pilgrims visit it today.

Very few of them have ever heard of Durupin.

Think about what that means for Durupin.

The oldest written tradition older than the Mount Ararat tradition by more than a thousand years does not point to this valley.

So here is where the evidence stands today.

There is a boat-shaped hill, a decadel long expert who walked away from it.

A geological explanation that fits the iron, and a soil anomaly that geology has not fully explained.

There is a broken drill bit, a radar report nobody has checked, and a box of cores in an Ankora laboratory that could settle part of this by early 2027.

The lab can tell us whether there is wood, bone, or human activity inside that outline that is missing from the ground around it.

So, what would real proof look like?

Would with its species identified?

A radiocarbon date from a lab with no stake in the answer.

Tool marks, joints, or traces of pitch and all of it compared against the control cores drilled outside the outline, then published so other scientists can try to break it.

Anything less is a story, not a find.

What the lab cannot do is tell us that the ship belonged to Noah.

That last step has never been a laboratory question.

Maybe that is why this hill keeps pulling people back.

Every culture that remembered the flood also remembered a survivor and a vessel.

Whether that vessel is under Drew Pinner, frozen on Ararat, or long gone from Mount Judy, the story has outlived every expedition sent to find it.

So tell me in the comments, if the lab finds ancient wood inside that hill next year, would it change what you believe or would it simply confirm what you already did?

I read every answer.

And if you want to hear the results the day they come out of Ankura, subscribe to Mystery Archives and turn on notifications.

When those cores are opened, we will be here to tell you exactly what they show.

…..

September 2026, eastern Turkey.

About 30 kilometers from Mount Ararat on a hillside, there is a mound of earth that looks exactly like a boat from above.

A drill was lowered into the very middle of it.

About 4 to 5 m down, the drill suddenly struck something.

That thing was harder than limestone, so hard that the drill bit itself broke off.

That was it.

Within just a few days, half the internet had delivered its verdict.

This is the petrified wood of Noah’s ark.

But the drilling team’s story was completely different.

They had found organic layers underground.

They had found a hollow space that was slowly filling with water, and not a single bore hole had reached solid bedrock.

To look down below, they had also kept a small robot ready named Gopher.

But the team said one thing very clearly so far.

Nothing has been identified as ancient wood and nothing has been dated.

Everything that came out is now sealed in bags sitting in a lab waiting for results.

So what exactly did that drill hit?

A stone from the mountain or something that geology has never been able to explain?

You’ll get the answer at the end of the video.

And by the time you get there, the way you look at this hillside will have completely changed.

My name is Marcus Reed.

Before we go further in the video, subscribe to the channel so you can be the first to see videos like this.

The blueprint of the scripture.

This story doesn’t begin with a mountain, but with a few figures more than 2,000 years old.

The book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, gives the complete measurements of Noah’s ark.

According to it, the ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.

It had three decks inside.

It was made of gopher wood, and it was sealed inside and out with resin, that is pitch, so that not a single drop of water could get in.

The gopher wood part is a little strange because this word appears only here in the entire Bible and which wood it actually was is still debated today.

Now the biggest question is where the ark actually came to rest.

Most people would say on Mount Ararat, but the scripture doesn’t say that.

The scripture says the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat.

And this small difference is a very big one.

Ararat was not the name of a single mountain but the Hebrew name of the ancient kingdom called Uratu in Assyrian records.

This kingdom spread over a large area of eastern Turkey, Armenia, and northwestern Iran.

The lone volcanic peak we today call Mount Ararat, which is more than 5,000 m high, only became people’s favorite location in later traditions.

The story doesn’t end here.

The Quran says the ark rested on Aljudi and many Islamic and Syriak Christian sources place this mountain further south near today’s border of Turkey, Syria and Iraq.

So it’s clear that the scripture doesn’t put its finger on any one place.

The 1959 photograph and the 1960 blast.

The year was 1959.

A captain in the Turkish army, Ilhan Durupanar, was going through aerial photographs from a mapping survey of eastern Turkey one by one.

Most of the photographs showed the same mountains, slopes, and grasslands.

But on one photograph, his eye stopped.

At a height of about 2,000 m above sea level, on a slope, there was something that looked completely different from the surrounding land.

The shape was long, one end narrow and the other rounded, and its edges were raised as if they were the walls of a ship’s hull.

The funny thing is that if you stand on the ground and look at it among the grassy hills, it just looks like a ridge of earth and stone that you might not even notice.

But from above, it really does look like a ship.

Later, when it was measured, its length came out to about 157 m.

That is roughly 515 ft.

And this shape was named after that same captain, the Durupinar Formation.

The very next year in 1960, a small team went to see it for themselves.

Along with Durupanar was Arthur Brandenburgger of Ohio State University.

Brandenburgger was an expert in photoggramometry, that is skilled at measuring land from aerial photographs, and he was quite impressed by the shape and symmetry of this formation in the photographs.

The team didn’t spend much time there, but what they did was direct and forceful.

They used explosives to blast a trench into the formation, hoping the ship’s structure would be visible inside.

But when the dust settled, there was only earth and rock, no wood, no trace of any structure.

The team declared it a natural formation, and most of the world forgot about it.

The coincidence of the cubit.

The book of Genesis gives the length of the ark as 300 cubits.

Here a cubit means an old unit of measurement.

The length from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger.

Now the problem is that not every person’s arm is the same.

So this measurement also differed between civilizations.

Shorter in some places, a little longer in others.

Now let’s do the math.

If we take the common estimate that 1 cubit is about 18 in, then 300 cubits means roughly 137 m.

That’s quite a bit shorter than durupinar’s length.

But in Egypt, another measure was used called the royal cubit.

It was a little longer, a bit more than 20 in.

With this royal cubit, 300 cubits comes to about 157 m, almost exactly the length of the shape lying on that hillside.

This is the coincidence on which today’s entire claim stands.

It sounds like a big piece of evidence, but there’s a catch.

This whole match depends on which cubit you choose.

And nowhere does the scripture say the Egyptian royal cubit should be used here.

So the question is simple.

If out of several scales you choose only the one that matches the answer you want, is that really evidence?

Ron Wyatt and the long list of evidence.

The biggest credit for making Dupinar famous around the world goes to an American named Ron Wyatt.

Wyatt was a nurse anesthetist in Tennessee, meaning his job was putting patients under during operations.

Exploring was his hobby and he had no formal training in archaeology.

In 1977 he reached this site for the first time and then kept coming back again and again.

Gradually he became completely convinced that this shape was not an ordinary hill but the remains of Noah’s ark turned to stone.

Over the next few years, Wyatt and his associates put a long list of evidence before the world.

First, a metal detector picked up iron fittings along the formation.

Second, lines were seen on the ground that looked like a ship’s ribs or deck beams.

Third, some pieces were found that were said to be petrified wood.

Fourth, some unusual radar readings came in.

And fifth, in a nearby village, large stones were found with a hole in their upper part.

Wyatt called these drogue stones, meaning heavy anchors that were tied by rope and hung from the back of a ship so that it wouldn’t sway in the raging water.

These claims grabbed people’s attention tremendously.

In 1987, Turkish officials held a ceremony at the site and later a visitor center was also built nearby.

Even today, tourists come to stand on a platform built there and look down at this shape.

But there’s one thing about Wyatt that is also important to know.

He didn’t just claim the ark.

He also said he had found the ark of the covenant in a cave beneath Jerusalem and had found the chariot wheels of Pharaoh’s army on the floor of the Red Sea.

None of these claims was ever confirmed.

That’s why many archaeologists stopped taking his Durupanar evidence seriously even before it could be properly examined.

And this evidence had a weakness that never went away.

Every piece of evidence rested on some interpretation.

A shape seen on a radar screen, a reading from a metal detector, a stone with a hole.

None of these things on its own proved that it was made by humans.

However convincing a shape looks, it can’t tell you who made it.

Facult’s U-turn.

In the 1980s, another American explorer entered this story.

David Facold.

Facult had previously been an officer in the merchant navy and was also a salvage diver who recovered goods from sunken ships, meaning he understood the structure of ships well.

He arrived at the site with ground penetrating radar.

He felt the radar readings were showing a regular pattern underground exactly like the hull of a giant ship.

In 1988, he published a book that said with full confidence that Durupanar was Noah’s ark.

But then the story turned around because Facult changed his mind.

He began working with Lawrence Collins, a geologist at California State University, Northridge.

In 1996, the two published a research paper in the Journal of Geocscience Education, and its title left no doubt.

It called the site a bogus Noah’s Ark and explained that it is a common geological structure.

Their answer was hidden in the rocks themselves.

Beneath this formation are layers of sedimentary rock.

That is layers formed over millions of years as mud and sand accumulate.

These layers have folded into a shape that geologists call a doubly plunging sincline.

In simple language, it’s a long trough-like structure that dips downward at both ends.

Think of it like a long sheet pressed down in the middle with both ends folded down.

Then for thousands of years, rain, erosion, and the flow of soil wore down the surrounding land.

And these folded layers survived as a long shape with raised edges and pointed ends.

Seen from above, this same shape looks like a boat.

They had direct answers for the rest of the evidence, too.

The iron readings were coming from natural deposits of iron rich minerals.

What was being called petrified wood was actually altered rock and the anchor stones were made of the same volcanic rock that is common throughout the region and the strongest rebuttal came from where no one expected it.

Several major creationist organizations that is groups who believe the biblical flood truly covered the whole world also refused to accept Durupanar as the ark.

For most geologists, the matter ended there.

A strange shape did not need a strange story.

If you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet, do it now because what’s coming next reopens this story.

Eyes that see inside the earth.

The entire debate about Durupanar until now was about what it looks like from above.

What has changed in the last few years is that you can now look beneath the ground without digging.

Two methods are used for this.

The first is ground penetrating radar that is GPR.

It sends radio waves into the ground and wherever the material below changes, the waves bounce back and are recorded.

Archaeologists use it before excavating to find buried walls, graves, and foundations.

The second method is electrical resistivity tomography that is ERT.

In this a slight current is passed through the ground and you see how much different things resist it.

Wet clay, dry rock, empty space and buried organic material all respond differently.

Combining the two methods produces a kind of map of what’s beneath the ground.

But both have their limits.

Wet soil absorbs radar waves.

So in damp ground, the deeper you look, the blurrier the picture gets.

ERT tells you that one part of the ground is different from the rest, but not why.

A pocket filled with water and buried wood can both appear equally different in it.

Think of it like knocking on a wall to find out what’s behind the plaster.

The sound changes, but it doesn’t tell you whether there’s a wooden beam, an iron pipe, or empty space behind it.

These instruments only point out that something is here.

They don’t tell you what it is.

Since 2019, an American group, Noah’s Ark Scans, has been surveying the site with these very instruments.

It was started by Andrew Jones and the radar work was handled by scientist Kosro Baktar.

They reported structures beneath the ground that looked to them like corridors, passages crossing each other at right angles and roomlike spaces.

Supporters began to see the ship’s decks and compartments in them.

But radar doesn’t take a photo.

It only gives data, and humans interpret what that data means.

Folded rock layers, cracks, changes in moisture, buried large stones, and pockets of loose soil can also give similarly clear and regular signals, especially in a place where the rock is already folded.

So when radar shows straight lines beneath a mountain, the real question should be what else could give exactly this signal?

The 2023 soil, the 2026 permit.

In 2023, a group of scientists reported the results of testing the soil at the site.

It included people from Istanbul Technical University, Ara Ibrahim Chachchen University and Andrews University in America.

According to them, clay and marine material were found in the samples, and some activity in the area appeared to date roughly between 5,000 and 3000 BC.

The news spread like wildfire, and in most places it was presented as if the ark had been found, but it was nothing of the sort.

Finding marine material in a hill in an area that was once underwater is not surprising.

And finding traces of humans living in eastern Turkey 7,000 years ago is also common.

None of these things shows that there was ever a ship there.

The researchers themselves called it just a beginning.

They needed the next step.

That is material from inside the shape itself.

2026 was for exactly that.

Turkish authorities gave official permission for a largecale geological and geoysical investigation of the Durupanar formation.

On the Turkish side, the work is being directed by archaeologist Professor Kenis Atila as spelled in the Hindi Jenkar Atila of Civas Kumhurat University and the international field team is under the command of Andrew Jones.

This wasn’t the first attempt at drilling here either.

In 1988, there had also been a small attempt, but only a few shallow holes were made.

The water poured in from above to keep the drill cool contaminated the extracted samples and they were no longer fit for testing.

So the 2026 team’s goal was clear.

Go deeper, take more samples, and keep them clean.

Now it’s important to understand the permit properly.

When a government permits the investigation of a protected site, it is only approving scientific work.

Nowhere in the permit does it say that this site is Noah’s Ark.

The method of work was simple.

The drill took samples from inside the boat-shaped formation and also from some fixed locations outside it called control points.

And it’s this second part that makes this work science and not a treasure hunt.

If the material inside and outside turns out the same, the shape is simply part of the ground.

If it turns out different, the reason for that difference will have to be explained.

Four findings.

By the time the report on the September work came out, the drill had reached a depth of about 18 m into the ground.

The team had collected about a thousand soil samples from roughly 150 locations.

And four major things emerged from these samples.

First, layers full of organic material were found underground.

Andrew Jones believes these could be the decayed remains of the ark’s upper deck, but he himself said clearly that this is only a guess under investigation for now, not a conclusion.

And it’s worth keeping in mind that organic material also accumulates naturally in soil and in debris that slides down a slope.

Even if ancient wood is found, that alone doesn’t prove it was shaped by a human.

Second, in several places the drill broke into empty spaces underground.

One of these was filled with mud and water and in another water kept accumulating continuously during drilling.

Third, no bore hole made inside the shape reached solid rock or limestone.

Kosro Baktar’s preliminary report said the same.

And fourth, that same hard layer with which this whole story began.

In one bore hole inside the shape about four to 5 m down, the drill hit something that broke its bit.

Joan said it was harder than limestone and that it could be petrified wood that had been filled with minerals.

But only the lab can confirm this because a large piece of rock buried in debris could have done exactly the same thing.

So, it could be petrified wood, or it could be a lump of volcanic rock that simply happened to be in the drill’s path.

The truth is that no one knows yet, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.

Jones himself summed up the whole situation for the press in one line.

So far, no material has been identified as ancient wood, and its age has not been determined either.

This is where the samples taken outside become most important.

Geologists say this shape was formed by an earth flow.

That is a mass of soil and stone that slides very slowly down a slope.

If the samples inside and outside the shape turn out the same, that explanation will be proven right.

But if something is found inside that isn’t outside, that will be the first real crack in this geological story.

The Gopher robot and the laboratory clock.

The robot’s name was Gopher.

It’s actually a small camera platform built to be lowered through the drill hole into the empty spaces that the radar had mapped.

The plan was that if Gopher reached an empty space and looked around, it would become clear whether the walls of that space were natural and rough or had straight walls and corners like humans make.

But the first attempt didn’t get very far.

The team itself said that the soil beneath the formation was so loose that the robot’s wheels kept getting stuck in it and it couldn’t reach the deeper spaces at all.

Now it will have to be modified and sent down again.

This small failure shows the real face of this whole story.

In the story running on the internet, a team has walked inside an ark buried underground.

The real story is that a handful of people on a hillside in the middle of mud are trying to push a small machine into places no one has ever seen and the ground is blocking their way at every step.

Now all hope rests on the lab.

According to a Newsweek report, the samples will undergo testing of organic material, mineral composition, and microscopic examination, and further tests will follow based on the first results.

Preliminary results are expected this winter.

The full scientific report is due by spring 2027, and if permission is granted, there will be fieldwork again in 2027.

Remember one thing, so far none of this has been examined by other independent scientists.

And these tests can tell much more than people think.

Under a microscope, real wood, even after turning to stone, often preserves the shape of its cells, its annual rings, and the thin tubes that once carried water in the tree.

Ordinary rock has nothing like that.

Mineral testing can tell whether that hard layer is volcanic stone, rock formed from compacted soil, or something else entirely.

And if the right organic material is found, radiocarbon dating will reveal whether it’s a few decades old, a few centuries old, or thousands of years old.

Can wood survive for thousands of years?

Normally, wood doesn’t last very long.

Bacteria, fungi, insects, oxygen in the air, and moisture altogether slowly eat it away.

But if the conditions are right, wood can survive for a surprisingly long time.

The greatest example of this is the Kufu ship.

It’s a complete boat made of cedar wood buried in Egypt near the Great Pyramid of Giza around 2500 BC.

In 1954, it was found in a sealed pit.

It is more than 40 m long.

When it was taken out of the pit and reassembled piece by piece, which took more than 10 years, its planks were still joined by rope lashings.

The second example is the Uluban ship, which sank off the southern coast of Turkey around,300 BC.

Some parts of its wooden hull survived on the seabed to this day.

But these two have one thing in common.

Scientists can say exactly why the wood survived.

In one place there was a dry sealed pit.

In another cold water with very little oxygen and in another settled soil on top that didn’t let air get inside at all.

Now if a giant wooden ship has survived beneath Durupanar, someone will have to give a full account of how it survived through thousands of years of rain, bitter frost, earthquakes, and soil flows.

Some supporters say that over time, minerals replaced the wood, just like a tree turns to stone.

Along with the project’s press release, a photograph was even published showing a quartz cast of wood, and it was said that a tourist had found it at that same site.

But merely turning to stone proves nothing about a ship because petrified trees are common all over the world.

To show that the wood belongs to a constructed ship, you need wood structure that can be identified and marks that show it was shaped by human hands.

If you haven’t subscribe to the channel yet, do it now because there is one possibility in this story that almost nobody talks about and it changes what the strongest evidence would actually look like.

The missing ark theory and the flood itself.

Just imagine yourself in that valley.

There are very few trees on these high slopes.

The winters are merciless, and every home needs a roof overhead and a fire to burn.

For the people living in such a place, wood would have been no less precious than gold.

Beams made houses, planks were cut into tools, doors, and furniture.

And in the long mountain winters, this same wood burned in the stove.

A giant wooden structure that suddenly appeared after some disaster would not be left alone as a monument.

People would have carried it off as something useful.

This means the most solid evidence of the ship may not be a large complete structure at all.

It could be something very small.

A piece of worked wood buried in a deep undisturbed layer, a hand cut joint, a wooden peg, a metal nail, or tool marks on a beam.

That is something nature could never make on its own.

Archaeologists have seen this pattern at other places.

The timber of old ships stranded on shores was often removed and their beams are found reused in nearby houses and boats.

So, it’s possible that the best evidence is hidden outside the formation in the oldest buildings of the surrounding villages.

But so far, nothing like this has come to light at Durupanar.

And then there’s the flood on which this whole story rests.

If such a large ship was carried by a flood up to these mountains, that flood would have left marks across the whole region, such as thick layers of mud, valleys carved by water, and rocks moved from their places, which could be dated and would match over long distances.

Great floods are certainly recorded in Earth’s history.

As the last ice age ended, dams of ice formed lakes burst, rivers changed course, and the sea rose by more than 100 m.

But all of this happened at different times in different places, and geologists do not consider any of them to be a single worldwide flood.

The flood story isn’t only in the Bible either.

Long before it in the Mesopotamian epics of Atrahasus and Gilgamesh 2, a man receives a warning, builds a large boat, saves his family and animals, and releases birds to find dry land.

In Gilgamesh, the boat comes to rest on Mount Nimush in the Zagros Mountains, which is very far from Ararat.

In 1997, William Ryan and Walter Pitman of Columbia University proposed that about 7 and a half thousand years ago, the Mediterranean broke through the Boserus and rushed into the Black Sea, which was then a freshwater lake, and the people living on its shores were drowned.

Later, Robert Ballard, who found the Titanic, reported an ancient shoreline underwater off the coast of Turkey and possible traces of human presence.

But later studies raised questions about this that the water perhaps rose slowly, rose less or rose in some other sequence.

That debate continues today.

Five criteria and the ending to accept durupinar as a real discovery.

Five things would be needed.

First, material that clearly shows it was made by humans.

Not rock that looks like wood or a mineral that looks like a nail, but worked wood.

Carpentry joints, manufactured metal, rope or tools.

Second, a firm location for every piece that is where it came from, from what depth and from which layer.

Things lying on the surface are weak evidence because they can slide in or someone could bring them later.

Third, testing by different labs.

Labs for whom accepting the ark idea isn’t necessary, and all their results should come out the same.

If it’s wood, its species should be identified.

And if an age is found, the same age should come out again and again.

This is not excessive.

From a bronze age ship to a royal tomb, every major claim has to pass this same test.

The answer is now locked in a few meters of soil sealed in bags.

My name is Marcus Reed.

The first results are due this winter and then we’ll know whether the hard layer that broke the drill bit is a buried stone from the mountain or the first material to come out of the formation that geology alone cannot explain.

Pain.
