They Drilled Into Noah’s Ark: The 6 Discoveries Nobody Expected to Find

In September 2026, for the first time in history, a team officially licensed by the Turkish government drilled into the ground at Durupanar.

On the American side was researcher Andrew Jones, founder of the Noah’s Ark Scans project.

On the Turkish side was renowned archaeologist Sanker Atila.

The site is a 157 m long ship hull-shaped formation embedded in the landscape of eastern Turkey 20 km from Mount Ararat.

Ever since a Turkish captain identified it in a military aerial photograph in 1959, it has divided scientists, archaeologists, and theologians around the world.

And if you are not yet familiar with the complete history of this site, we have a previous [music] video dedicated to it that you can watch afterward.

For those who believe in scripture, what is happening beneath that ground is not merely archaeology.

It is the real possibility that the account of Genesis left a physical and verifiable mark on the world.

In this video, [music] we’re going to analyze the six concrete findings from the recent excavations, honestly separating what has already been verified from what still awaits confirmation.

The broken drill bit.

The first discovery did not come from a laboratory.

It came from a tool that snapped in half underground.

The team used an industrial percussion drill, the type of equipment specifically manufactured to penetrate limestone and hard sedimentary rock.

This is not an ordinary construction drill.

It is the same type of tool used in heavy engineering projects designed to penetrate materials that resist intense pressure.

It descended between 4 and 5 m inside the outline of the formation and stopped.

It did not encounter rock.

It did not encounter limestone.

It encountered something harder than that and broke completely.

To understand the significance of this, it is important to know who determined exactly where to drill.

The coordinates were provided by Cosro Bactiar, an American scientist with more than 25 projects developed for the United States Department of Defense.

Backtrar spent four decades working with ground [music] penetrating radar, a technology that originated within the US Air Force and that has been used in practice to locate tunnels dug by cartels along the border between Mexico and the United States.

He is not an enthusiast.

He is an expert in seeing what lies beneath the ground before any tool ever goes down.

The team’s hypothesis for what broke the drill bit is petrified or highly mineralized wood.

This process occurs when organic matter such as wood remains buried for millennia under pressure and in contact with minerals.

Over time, minerals replace the wood fibers cell by cell, transforming it into a structure that is chemically stone, but still preserves the original shape of the material.

Wood at this stage is harder than limestone, harder than most common rocks.

Genesis 6:14 describes the ark as being built from gopher wood, a material whose exact identification is still debated by linguists and botonists, but which if subjected to this process would acquire exactly this kind of hardness.

The sample from the layer that broke the drill bit is being kept refrigerated, awaiting independent laboratory analysis.

But what can already be verified is simple.

The drill bit broke.

And for decades, skeptics described that terrain as an ordinary mass of sedimentary rock.

And if the layer that broke the drill is already difficult to explain, what the surrounding soil revealed is even harder to ignore.

Elevated organic matter in the soil.

In 2024, before any drill entered the ground, the team had already done something methodologically important.

They collected 88 [music] soil samples from 22 different locations, some inside the outline of the formation, others outside it.

To eliminate any potential bias, the samples were labeled only with letters and numbers without identifying where each one had come from.

And that is how they arrived blind [music] for analysis at Adaturk University in Erzerum.

The laboratory did not know what it was analyzing or where each sample had originated.

And the results were surprising.

The soil from inside the outline contained nearly three times more organic matter than the soil outside it with 38% more potassium and a measurable difference in pH.

In 2026, drilling expanded upon this discovery.

Soil cores extracted from depths of up to 18 m revealed dark, dense layers of carbon-rich organic material, approximately 40% above the levels found in the external soil on the same hillside under the same climate at the same altitude.

To understand why this matters, it is necessary to understand what elevated potassium indicates chemically.

This type of alteration in the soil is characteristic of a specific process.

Wood decomposing over thousands of years.

When organic matter such as wood remains buried for a very long time, it releases potassium and carbon into the surrounding soil as it decomposes.

It is a recognizable chemical signature and it is concentrated precisely within the outline of the formation.

And there is another relevant geographical detail.

That entire region is volcanic in origin.

And volcanic environments are known to accelerate the mineralization process of organic matter.

The same mechanism that could explain how wooden structures might survive at this level of preservation on a hillside in eastern Turkey.

What still needs to be confirmed is whether this signature comes from ancient wood or from mineralrich volcanic sediments.

But the difference between the inside and the outside exists and it requires an explanation.

Yet when radar began mapping the interior of this formation, what appeared on the screens was something geologists cannot explain with rock alone.

Geometric Anomalies on radar.

Ground penetrating radar is a device that emits pulses of electromagnetic energy into the ground and records how those signals return.

The speed and pattern of the returning signals reveal what lies beneath the surface without the need to open a trench.

It is the same technology used to locate buried cables, ancient foundations, and buried archaeological structures.

And there is one thing ground penetrating radar rarely finds in a natural geological context.

[music] Straight lines and 90° angles.

Nature does not build that way.

Geological processes produce irregular layers, curves, and random fractures.

But when radar reveals straight patterns, right angle intersections and symmetrical structures that demands an explanation.

That is exactly what the scans at Durupanar revealed.

Parallel lines, perpendicular intersections, elongated voids between 7 and 9 m below the surface, and the most significant finding, stacked layers that the team interprets as three internal decks.

Three, the exact same number precisely described in Genesis 6:16.

Make it with lower, second, and third decks.

A text written thousands of years ago specifies three levels within a structure.

And the radar reveals exactly that pattern inside the formation.

But the most impressive discovery was the central corridor, a linear structure extending for more than 76 m along the longitudinal axis of the formation running from the interior toward the end of the structure.

In naval archaeology, central corridors were fundamental structural elements in large vessels.

They served as a backbone distributing the weight of the cargo across both sides and ensuring the structural integrity of the vessel on the open sea.

And the presence of a line of this length in this position inside a formation with naval proportions is the kind of detail that does not appear in a geological context without a cause.

The geometric patterns exist in the data.

The correspondence with Genesis is real.

But when the drills went down to verify what the radar suggested, they found something the skeptics had never predicted.

The formation is not solid inside.

Underground cavities.

Before looking at any technical data, there is a word in the biblical text that deserves attention.

Genesis 6:14 uses the Hebrew term kin to describe the internal structure of the ark.

A word that literally means nests, compartments, [music] divided chambers.

Not a vessel that was open and empty inside, but a structure containing multiple enclosed spaces [music] separated from one another.

That detail has been in the text for thousands of years.

And in September 2026, the drills began to confirm exactly this type of configuration inside Durupanar.

The skeptical argument repeated most often over the decades was straightforward.

The formation was supposedly a solid mass of sedimentary rock with nothing inside.

But when the drills went down, none of them encountered such a solid mass.

[music] Down to a depth of 18 m, a considerable distance below the surface.

The drilling did not strike continuous limestone or bedrock.

Instead, [music] it encountered something unexpected.

Empty pockets between 7 and 9 m below the surface.

Hollow spaces that sediment had not filled over thousands of years.

In geology, when the ground surrounding a structure compacts over time, but certain spaces remain empty, it generally indicates that something supported those voids from within.

A wall, a partition, a structure that prevented complete collapse.

But the most significant episode occurred when one of the drills advanced toward one of these cavities.

As it descended, the chamber began filling with water.

The water did not drain away or disperse.

It remained trapped there as though contained within an enclosed space.

The team immediately collected this water for sediment analysis.

What still needs to be confirmed is crucial.

Empty cavities can have a natural geological origin and only laboratory analysis of the samples will determine whether there is a chemical signature of human activity or a constructed structure.

But the fact remains where skeptics claimed there was solid stone, there are real internal spaces [music] and the biblical text described compartments before any tool ever entered the ground.

And it was not only the subsurface that preserved evidence.

The surface surrounding the formation also had something to say.

Ancient pottery fragments.

During the excavations, archaeologist Tanker Atella’s team collected something in the area surrounding the formation that few people have discussed.

Fragments of ancient pottery.

For those unfamiliar with archaeology, this may seem like a minor detail, but it is not.

Pottery does not naturally appear in the soil.

It has to be manufactured, shaped, and fired by human hands.

Finding ceramic fragments at a specific site means one concrete thing.

Human beings were there, carried out activities there, and left physical traces behind.

The question that arises is straightforward.

Why would people repeatedly visit an isolated hillside in eastern Turkey over the course of centuries?

History has already recorded an answer.

Josephus, the first century Jewish historian, described that region as a place known in his own time, and he did not present it as religious legend or devotional speculation.

Josephus was a trained historian writing for a skeptical and demanding Roman audience.

People who would not accept fiction presented as fact.

He recorded as a matter of common knowledge that [music] people traveled to that location specifically to scrape bitumen from the ark and carry it away as a protective amulet.

[music] And centuries later, medieval travelers journeying along the Silk Road deliberately made detours [music] to tear off bitumencovered fragments from that same location.

The pottery discovered by the team may be the exact physical evidence of this kind of repeated visitation.

People traveling there generation after generation and leaving behind in the soil what they carried with them.

And thermoluminescence dating, a technique that determines when pottery was last fired, will reveal the precise era of these fragments.

But that result is still [music] pending.

What can already be stated is that this specific location was visited by humans over the course of centuries, and that is consistent with everything history has recorded about the site.

But the next discovery did not come from the ground because what had been found before any modern excavation must also be taken into consideration.

What history already knew.

The previous six findings came from the 2026 excavations, but there is a body of evidence accumulated over decades that needs to be considered alongside everything that has been discovered because it existed before any drill, any radar, and any robot.

In 1959, Turkish Captain Ilhan Durupanar was analyzing military aerial mapping photographs of the Mount Ararat region when he identified something on the ground that should not have been there, a 157 m long oval outline with the unmistakable shape of a ship’s hull.

He reported the discovery, and the site [music] came to bear his name.

What immediately drew attention was its length.

Genesis 6:15 describes the ark as being 300 cubits long.

[music] The Egyptian cubit is a documented unit of measurement that was widely used in the ancient world, 52.3 cm.

[music] Therefore, 300 Egyptian cubits correspond to 157 m.

And the Durupanar formation measures exactly 157 m.

In a world where numerical coincidences are easily dismissed, this correspondence has endured for decades without a convincing alternative explanation.

The ratio between the length and width of the formation is 6:1, the same proportion found in the dimensions described in Genesis.

This detail gained additional significance in the 20th century when modern naval engineers working independently and without biblical reference concluded that a 6:1 ratio is the ideal configuration for the stability of cargo vessels on the open sea.

The proportion that ensures a structure of this scale does not capsize under waves and winds was recorded in Genesis thousands of years before any naval engineering manual existed.

Then in 1987, the Turkish government recognized the site as a protected national park.

Before any drill entered the ground, there were already serious reasons not to dismiss the site.

And now physical data is being added to that evidence.

Finally, reflect on this.

What is happening at Durupanar does not end in September or October 2026.

The samples are on their way to laboratories in Ankora and the results will arrive in 2027.

This channel will bring you every update as soon as it is released.

But if the ark existed, then the flood existed.

[music] And if the flood existed, then God’s judgment upon humanity is not a metaphor.

It is a historical event.

And every judgment in scripture points to the same truth.

Noah was not spared because of merit, but because of grace.

And the earth may be beginning to confirm what faith has always known.
